During the last two decades Mauritius has become the star of tourism in the tropics.

High standard hotels set in a magnificent scenery have favoured the development of this small volcanic island. The setting is postcard-picture pretty : lagoons of an unreal blue and soft coral sandy beaches. Inland, the magnificent fantasy-story, like mountains add to the charm of this endearing island.

Mauritius started off as a French colony falling later under English rule. Both cultures left their mark. In Mauritius the rule of the road is driving on the left and the newspapers are printed in French. The population originated in Europe and Africa as well as in India for a major part, the influence of which is very much felt on the island.

The panorama of the Republic of Mauritius will not be complete without its tiny sister-island Rodrigues. Rodrigues lies at 600km from the main island and lends a delightful touch of creole and authenticity to an already very colourful country.
