The French island of the Comores archipelago is quite small. It has however one major attraction, its lagoon is one of the largest in the world.

Mayotte is surrounded by an unending coral reef with here and there a fewinlets for boats to pass. This nature reserve harbours a rich ecosystem, most interesting to divers. Turtles come and lay eggs on pristine beaches lined with baobab trees. Whales from Antartica play in the turquoise waters during the Southern Winter.

Mayotte, the archipelago island is of volcanic origin and is as interesting on the island itself as it is in the sea. Here is a colourful island, an Islamic island that became French in 1841 and is now in full modern development. Plantations of ylang-ylang line the newly tarred roads and fill the evening air with theiramazing scent. All day long barges fly between Petit-Terre (small island) and Grande-Terre(large island) transporting cars, bunches of bananas and passengers in a postcarc-like setting.
