The safety and welfare of your animal is important to us. The following rules have been established to ensure safe travel for your pet.
Only dogs and cats of less than 5 kg are allowed to be carried in cabin;
Rules
Dogs and cats under four months are not accepted for carriage as unvaccinated;
The owner is responsible for maintaining documentation of travel of his animal updated (vaccination, passport of the animal, health certificate, documentation of entry);
Prior authorization for the animal of air transportation in cabin;
Passenger is required to provide, for carriage in the cabin, a proper and adequate animal transportation container: a rigid structure container equipped with a metallic door and metallic ventilation bars;
Mark the container with the pet’s name and a telephone;
During the flight, pets are not allowed to leave their container.
Travel tips : if you are flying abroad, find out whether there are quarantine or other health requirements at the destination. You should contact the appropriate embassy or consulate well in advance of your travel date.
Animals over 5 kg will be carried in the hold.
Venomous animals including reptiles and insects are not allowed for transport;
Transport of contaminated animals by infectious diseases is prohibited;
Birds except parrots and parakeets cannot leave Reunion Island as Newcastle disease remains active;
The inter-airlines transfers of shipping of live animals are not accepted with the exception of:
* Dogs and cats carried in cargo hold;
* Dogs and cats carried as accompanied bags.
Transport of live animals from France
Transport by freight of live animals from France to Reunion Island, Sydney and Noumea is prohibited.
Transport of live animals from Reunion Island to Sydney, Noumea and Bangkok
The transport of live animals is prohibited.
Transport of live animals from Reunion Island to: Mayotte, Mauritius, South Africa, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles, France
Live animals are accepted for transport only by freight.
Transport of animals for a departure from Reunion Island :
For safety reasons, animals travelling in hold (AVIH) must be carried in a regulatory cage which is specially designed for air transport.
This mandatory rule is applied since August 12, 2008.

Cages sold in pet shop or any other shop are not allowed for air transport.

the acceptance of the animal for air transportation is subject to the passenger taking over the full responsibility for the animal. The passenger must sign a discharge of responsibility ;

Air Austral is not responsible for any loss, injury, illness or death of the animal caused by a change of climate, temperature, altitude or flight turbulence and treatment on ground(transhipment, unloading, loading and transfer);

The animal will not be accepted if it is transported in a cage not approved.
Flights from France to Réunion Island
The prefectoral bylaw of september 13th 2007 specifies: importing dogs of 1st and 2nd categories in Reunion Island is prohibited. Those animals are not allowed for transport on Air Austral flights France to Reunion Island.
Flights from Reunion Island to France
((Air Austral does not transport dogs of 1st and 2nd categories.)) This also concern owners of dogs classified as category 2 with a prefectoral derogation . This measure applies from 29 January 2009.
Check with a veterinarian to be sure that your pet is fit to travel;
Give the animal a drink within two hours before you check in with him;
A veterinarian should decide if a tranquilizer should be prescribed for your pet;.
Animals travel under less stress when they become accustomed to their shipping container before they travel : keep also with them personal items.
Attention : In South Africa, Mauritius Islands, Seychelles Islands, there are strict rules that regulate the transportation of pets by air . You should contact the appropriate embassy, consulate or health department well in advance of your travel date.
